America…“verpisst” yeah! July 5, 2012
Happy 4th of July!

Had a really good time yesterday celebrating “America’s Birthday” with friends and family, utilizing the standard trappings for honoring our nation’s independence:
  • Brauts (German)
  • Corn on the Cob (Native American)
  • Potato Salad (German)
  • Negro Modelo & Modelo Especial (Mexican)
  • Blueberry Ice Cream Cake (Britain)
Huh…maybe I should rethink my menu next year to ensure it’s 100-percent pure American? Then again, the meal we enjoyed was fairly traditional and maybe that’s the entire point of celebrating Independence Day?

Independence is defined as “not being influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion or conduct; thinking or acting for oneself.” What’s more simple an example than enjoying foods from various cultures?

The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of all kinds of unique, dynamic and multi-cultural people, formed by people of different nations, languages and races. Perhaps my meal’s menu is more American in that it contains items from throughout the world?

So enjoy your holiday week/weekend and be sure to experience as much diversity and variety possible. It might be only then we can call ourselves proud Americans.

How about it’s just really cool?
